Express Wash

Today my CI called because her kid still has a fever.  Noone can cover for her so we are trying to reschedule patients and so I'm just hanging around the basement waiting to find out what time I have to go into work.  Good thing too because I started the washing machine this morning...I used the "express cycle" which was supposed to take 23 minutes.  Nope.  1 hour and about 50 dirty sink water bucketfulls later...it finally finished.

Just to back up, the washing machine leaked last weekend too.  You might not think that really happens, I know I didn't, but it does.  Only it wasn't really the washing machine leaking, it was draining out into the big laundry room sink because it supposedly does that if you use the dishwasher and washing machine at the same time.   The garbage disposal and dishwasher are also connected to the same pipes (I don't get it); so not only was there soapy water in the sink, but also Eve's previously disposed meals including carrots and tuna.  Delicious.

I was watching a movie with Ted and Elizabeth when EB came in to report that there was "a little water" in the laundry room which really meant about an inch of water all over.  Luckily there were some brooms, a door leading outside, and a strategically placed laundry basket that I could stand in to avoid the nasty water buildup.  I felt like I was fording the river in Oregan Trail.  So this could have happened again this morning, but I caught the rising sink water just in time (twice) and was throwing the water out back onto Eve's porch and plants in my work clothes while it was raining. Right when she was pulling into the driveway...oops ;)  Then she tried to tell me I should use the express cycle and saw that I had and there was only 1 minute left...which turned into 30.  Never thought I would hate seeing soapy water in a sink so much.

Eve's theories never cease to amaze me.  So far, the dishwasher makes water leak everywhere in the kitchen even if it hasn't been used in 3 days, and turning a lamp on means you hit the power strip and the internet stops working. :)

I'm rambling.  And thinking we should just cancel our whole patient load today :)

over the river and through the woods

The Rivanna trail is one of my favorite things about Charlottesville. And Saturday's mud run along it made me love it even more. Where else can you run along a pipe holding onto a concrete wall to avoid the creek below(besides the richmond pipeline), find surrender flags hanging from trees, cross a street to stay on the trail and find a bamboo forest waiting for you, jog over a wooden plank and find out it would be better as a see saw. Add in some rain and ice in the week before and the narrow, hilly, now muddy and icy trail is even better. I still don't understand why the footpath was the iciest but I made it and with the help of EB to push me up a hill when my feet went sliding towards the river below ;) The run/walk/ice skating was longer than I meant but who's counting when you're having so much fun :)

What I learned about myself...
* i love an adventure
* being outside makes me feel free
* i want to be in shape to enjoy these things for as long as i can
* i miss my bestest
* I think running up icy hills is easier than walking up them...but running down icy hills is way scarier than walking down them

Why this weekend was my favorite in cville so far...
1. I tried a morrocan restaurant which included a European style toilet flush, belly dancer, hand washing at the table before eating delicious noodleys and lentils with your hands, and fun people.
2. I felt like a freshman in college and stayed awake till 4 am for fun...I mean 3:50. :) And DON'T feel like a freshman in college because as Julia pointed out...no more papers ever. EVER!
3. Adventure mud run on rivanna trail.
4. Devilsback Brewery with delicious Hef and spastic waiter. "You good? Good. Everyone good?"
5. I realized how fun hiking can be in cold weather! Cold Mountain was amazing, especially walking the ridge and eating lunch at the top. Thanks for a fun day and making the trip sister, ryan, sak! :)
6. Steelers win the superbowl!! Delicious chili and cookies at my cville home away from home. Did you know there was a new hour long office afterwards too? Icing on the cake.

That is all. I like lists. HA!

snow

It snowed last night. And it's been a little while since I've seen enough of it but I think the prettiest time to see snow is early in the morning. I had to work early and went outside around 6:30...it was still dark but the I love how the snow makes it brighter and it was so beautiful!! It made me appreciate the early hour and feel very peaceful. Everything is untouched and quiet. I tried to take a picture but my photography skills are average at best but much worse when I am half asleep :)

Snow on mountains is even better. And I love the adventures you can have in the mountains...more on that later :)
